SIR KENNETH MAXWELL STODDART

Great-great grandson of Benjamin, great-nephew of Sir William Benjamin Bowring and son of Wilfred Bowring Stoddart who, in 1906, together with Sir Robert Hampson, Mr Harrison Jones, the Town Clerk and the City Surveyor, were nominated by the then Alderman W.B. Bowring 'to be associated with me in considering the best manner in which the property may be dealt with'. (Letter to the town Clerk, 12 January 1906).

Alderman W.B. Stoddart later opened the Old English Gardens in Bowring Park on 14 July, 1921. His son, Sir Kenneth Stoddart, is the latest in the long line of this illustrious family to serve the City and Merseyside with dignity and honour.

Formerly High Sheriff of Lancashire, in 1979-89 Sir Kenneth was Lord Lieutennant of Merseyside and remains a Deputy Lord Lieutenant. He was honoured by The Queen who con–ferred the Knight Commander of the Victorian Order upon him in 1990.

The Society of 'FRIENDS OF BOWRING PARK' has been honoured by Sir Kenneth's support as Patron of its annual CELEBRATION COM–MUNITY GALA, first held on 29 June 1991 to commemo–rate the 85th anniversary of William's gift.
