Bowring Park Centenary Celebrations 2006 To 2007
CENTENARY GALA DAY SUNDAY 25™ JUNE 2006 12PM TO 5PM
This event marked the centenary of the Deed of Gift signed
by Alderman William Benjamin Bowring JP on the 25th June 1906,
in which he signed over the Roby Hall Estate, which he purchased
from William Pilkington in January 1906, to trustees Liverpool
City Council, for the recreation of the people for all time.
Guests: The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Liverpool
The Mayor of Knowsley Councillor Mrs Joan Quilliam and Mayoress
Anthony E Bowring, representing descendants of William's family
Philip and Gavin Bowring.
Anthony and Philip Bowring signed Centenary copies of the
original Deed of Gift for presentation to the Lord Mayor, Mayor,
and Friends of Bowring Park.
The Bothy history plays written by Audrey Wilson were performed
by three local primary schools: St Annes Roby Park Huyton C
of E. and described local historic events linked to Roby and
Bowring Park from 1830 to 2006. Scripts available on application.
Public transport: trains to Roby station/ buses Nos 6; 6b
and 61 (161 am).
FINALE OF CENTENARY YEAR WILL TAKE PLACE JUNE 2007:
Roby Hall estate was renamed 'Bowring Park' in June 1907 at
an official presentation ceremony, guests being transported
by chartered steam train, the centenary of which Friends of
Bowring Park and the current Trustees, Knowsley Metropolitan
Borough Council, will be marking with special three day steam
train events along the Roby Embankment plus steam and vintage
attractions and school picnics in Bowring Park on 9th 10th
and 12th June 2007
