SUMMER BULLETIN JULY 2010
SUMMER BULLETIN @ JULY 2010
OUR CELEBRATION GALA TO MARK THE DEED OF GIFT AND 21ST BIRTHDAY OF THE SOCIETY was a lovely occasion in bright sunshine and cheerful company and with our delightful Queen Olivia (6) and King Alex (7). Only problem was that England was playing in World Cup 3pm so crowds ebbed away from 2pm! However, we achieved a profit of £565.20* after paying costs of £1,657* for which we thank everyone concerned, especially The Duchy of Lancaster Fund, also Mr Eric Mahoney and KMBC Arts Dept, for welcome contributions towards attractions which boosted the fun, and to our hardworking FOBP Events Secretary and helpers and all participants for fundraising activities listed in attached Gala Statement which includes proceeds of prize programme, & Andy, Alex for setting up.
HOPEFUL NEWS … We may be awarded a grant by Awards for All to enable us to meet our objectives in the coming months. These include improvements in the kitchen, centre furniture and facilities, IT, play equipment, heritage week , storage, archives, and six cultural evenings. Keep hoping.
ALSO Knowsley’s repairs to the garden walls and potting sheds, originally scheduled for April, will start soon.
We thank Fiona Mathers for addressing our very valid concerns at the recent tendency by estate managers to authorise large highway vehicles to use the frontage of the potting sheds as a ‘lorry compound’, with several large vehicles driving along the park drive close to the new play area – an inappropriate combination with excited children about.
Update on private tender process: This went on hold for a few months to meet Charity Commission guidelines
for a public consultative process and establishment of an Independent Board to determine the final outcomes.
Questionnaires were available at the Gala to seek opinions about, for example, what makes people visit Bowring Park, and what would make them visit it more, etc. Jon Roberts and Philip Hurst were pleased at the good response which resulted in a thick file of completed questionnaires. A similar Q is available to golfers.
Forms can be obtained from the Visitors Centre or golf booking office. The Project Team are formulating membership of the Independentr Board, drawing from community groups for full representation. Audrey Wilson has been invited to represent Stakeholders FOBP, and Tony Randles the Stakeholders B.Golf Club.
A helpful letter has been received from our Appeal President,. Peter Bowring CBE, in which he made a very welcome proposal to consider liaising with previous subscribers for the purpose of raising funds to enable the Society to meet its objectives in the coming years. He suggested we draw up a list for his information, and improvements to the Coach House immediately spring to mind, a review of electricals, a floor in the stable room which would create an office and storage above, pointing of brickwork, possible use of solar panels.
All these things are much needed and would maximise the benefits of the coach house for the future.
MEMBERSHIP Membership Secretary Beryl Hutchin and FOBP Officers and Committee are very pleased at the number of new members who have joined the Society recently, especially as the majority of them wish to be actively involved in our activities, some with special interest in the coming Heritage Project. GOOD !
